Between the Levels
The stairwell not only connects the different levels of the house but becomes a designed space in its own right. The starting point is the existing architecture with its staggered flights of stairs, tall wall surfaces, and shifting perspectives.
A large-format floral wall design accompanies movement through the stairwell and changes with every viewing angle. Its graphic, drawing-like character stands in contrast to the clear architecture and the warm wood of the steps. Art is deliberately integrated into the tall wall surfaces, making the vertical dimension of the space tangible as well.
Light plays a special role here. Low-mounted lights trace the course of the staircase, while directional light highlights the art and individual areas. Sculptural objects in reflective metal set unexpected accents, continually picking up light and surroundings anew.
Thus a functional passage becomes a distinctive space that transforms as one walks through it, connecting architecture, art, and movement.
